 Drip irrigation is a method of irrigation that delivers water drop by drop, uniformly and slowly, to the soil near the plant roots. The small water flow rate and slow water infiltration minimize evaporation loss. Further evaporation reduction can be achieved with mulch. Except for the soil directly under the dripper, which is saturated, the soil in other areas remains unsaturated. Water infiltration and diffusion primarily occur through capillary action.
 
  However, if drip irrigation lasts too long, waterlogging may occur beneath the roots. Therefore, modern drip irrigation systems are usually controlled by sophisticated computers, although manual operation is also possible. Drip irrigation uses low water pressure, conserving water, and can be used in areas with different plant growth, irrigating each plant individually. However, slope areas require pressure compensation, which can be controlled by computer-regulated valves in different sections. The key is to control and adjust pressure and remove particles from the water to prevent clogging the drippers. Water is typically transported using black plastic pipes, often buried under mulch to prevent algae growth and UV degradation of the pipes. Drip irrigation can also be achieved using porous ceramic pipes buried underground, but this is more expensive and is typically only used for lawns and golf courses.
